Another amazing year of the SCARPA Great Lakeland 3 Day is over - and what a year it was.
Holding an event in the Lake District in Spring is always going to be at the mercy of the weather and this year was no different.
But rain can't stop a good time!
This year's event centre was at Ennerdale Show Grounds - a great location to start and end the event.
The first day saw challenging conditions, especially for navigating with very low visibility all over the courses.
The overnight camp took us to Buttermere and thankfully the conditions brightened to reveal some stunning views.
As ever a highlight for the SCARPA team was meeting so many of you! We gave out more shoes than ever for GL3D entrants to try on their courses and received some amazing feedback!
SCARPA Athlete Carmine de Grandis joined us at the event again this year and shared his thoughts on an amazing weekend in the lakes:
"GL3D was such a great event. Spending three days with like minded people in the Great Outdoors is quite special. After a long journey from Norfolk to the Lake District, the night before the start was a bit wet and the weather was moody. However, meeting the community and the volunteers before the start made me feel super positive.
Seeing my "SCARPA family" and knowing they would be there cheering me on every day - SCARPA sponsors this incredible event -. I felt a little bit of pressure as I was coming into the event recovering from a calf injury. I decided to test recovery and fitness on day one by going moderately hard, constantly monitoring fatigue and muscle soreness taking on one of the shorter courses, the Herdwick.
Poor visibility and steep, technical climbs made day 1 quite challenging. Yet I surprised myself by being top 3 on this course. While I came here to have fun, play music, share my experience of the SCARPA shoes with participants and eating pizza, I now had a decision to make: my calf had held up... would I push hard on day 2 and 3 to see if I could finish this event in podium position?
The desire to test fitness and give a run for their money to my friends David Wood and Tim O'Brien meant I decided to run hard. This was the right choice as I loved running hard and taking on the spectacular courses created by Ourea Events.
Day 2 and 3 at camp were so cool. I particularly enjoyed playing the accordion for people around the campfire and learning on the spot "When I am 64" by the Beatles for one of the competitor who was turning 65 on day 3 of the event.
I cannot recommend highly enough this special event where you can compete hard, yet have the most chilled time for three consecutive races. I will definitely be back with my accordion #carmineaccordionrounds #anaccordiononthemountains and hopefully fitter to take on the Wainwright course"
Entries for the 2025 event are now open - so if you fancy joining us in the lakes next May, then now is the time to enter! ENTER GL3D 2025
