Resoling shoes and boots

Resoling shoes and boots

Have you ever thought about resoling your shoes and boots?

When our beloved footwear come to the end of their life, most people will throw away their old pair and buy a brand new pair. While we all love new shoes – resoling our old ones is a smarter option!

Our shoes and boots are built to the highest standard and should serve you for many years of use. However, just like tyres on a car, the rubber parts of a boot, shoe or rock shoe can wear down with use, and that’s why we offer a full re-sole service.

Why should you resole before replacing?

Environment

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and resoling is a big part of this!

The environmental impact of buying a new pair of shoes and throwing away your old ones adds up. Even with our environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing process you will be creating more emissions and using more materials.

With a resole you avoid your old pair being thrown out and just replace the rubber! Meaning you have happy feet and have a lesser effect on the environment.

Performance

You know the feeling when you have got your shoes or boots fitting just right, they are nicely warn in, comfortable and perform really well.

Now add some fresh rubber to the mix and you have a almost perfect shoe – moulded to your foot, but with the grip of a brand new shoe!

Cost

Resoling is cheaper than buying a new pair of boots or shoes!

You can extend the life of your favourite pair without the cost of buying a brand new pair, all while safe in the knowledge that your new soles will perform as well as a brand new pair!

Athlete Reviews

Don’t just take our word for it! Our athletes use Scarpa shoes a lot – and with that level of use they will eventually need to resole their shoes. Here are what some of the Scarpa team thing of their resoled shoes.

Uisdean Hawthorn

“Almost all my current rock climbing shoes I am climbing on have been resoled through Scarpa resole service. I am a huge fan, the shoes fit exactly like a well worn in shoe except they have a beautiful crisp edge.

For long multi pitch granite routes having a really comfortable shoe but one that has a fresh edge for standing on those tiny granite edges is the best of both worlds.”

Emma Twyford

“I used the resole service because I really love the Chimera and feel like reusing a shoe is a better option than continually ordering new shoes from an environmental perspective.

The resole was fantastic and came back good as new with the pro of not having to break them in on the fit. It means my half size down feel comfortable straight away and the precision is just as good as a new shoe.”

Robbie Phillips

“I was put off resoleing for ages after a poor job many years ago…those days however are long gone! I get all my shoes resoled direct from SCARPA or SCARPA Certified resolers and some of them have been resoled 4 or 5 times.

Aside from it being a more environmentally responsible approach, you also get a lot more value for money out of your climbing shoes, and I can certify that the performance does not diminish for a long time!

In particular if you’re resoleing stiff to mediums stiff shoes like Maestro, Instinct, Vapor or Mago models, you will get many resoles out of one pair, whereas the softer models are good for 1 or 2 resoles in my experience. I actually find that the resoles perform better than new, as they are already broken in and moulded to your feet, but with the added benefit of brand new rubber!”

How to resole

You can choose to have your product resoled directly with us and our footwear experts in Italy or for a quicker service you may want to utilise one of our preferred partners in the UK.

If you opt to re-sole your footwear with us, then the footwear is sent back to our factory in Italy. Once there, trained experts with a lifetime of making boots and shoes will start working on your footwear.

Re-soling involves completely removing the existing used sole unit, cleaning and preparing the footwear, and then placing the footwear back on the original last (the last is the original model or shape around which your SCARPA boot or shoe is constructed, and is a critical part of what makes SCARPA footwear so special).

This crucial difference means the shoe/boot is rebuilt around the original shape, just as if it was fresh out of the factory. Once the footwear has been re-lasted, only then is the whole sole unit (not just the rubber outsole) is replaced with the newest version.
