Name: Antonia Fan

D.O.B: 02/05/1995

Hometown: Cumbria

Sport: Trail Running

I started running a bit later than most when I got dragged along to some of the Cross Country training sessions at the University of Sheffield. I spent a couple of years doing Cross Country and Road, but it wasn’t long until I discovered the Peak District.

Shortly after, I was fortunate enough to get a job in the Lake District which has allowed me to train on an endless supply of big hills and train with an awesome club, Ambleside AC. 2021 was the first year I completed the whole English Championship series, coming 4th overall. I’m hoping to have a solid winter of training to push for a better result next year.

Tell us about your successes so far?

Lake District Abrahams Tea Round Women’s Record in 2020 and still standing...

What are you working on? What are your goals for the future?

Right now I’m coming to the end of my racing season, finishing with some club relays and the OMM Mountain Marathon. Next year I want to go abroad and do some European middle distance races.

Why do you run? What do you love about trail running?

I love being outdoors, moving my body and the ability to empty my thoughts after a hard day at work. It can be blue skies with clear views or freezing cold and stuck in the clag for hours, I still get the same rush of accomplishment.

Which Scarpa shoe is your favourite?

The Ribelle Run - it’s a solid shoe and felt comfortable to run in straight away.

Tell us about your best day running

This is a tough one! Probably the Abraham’s Tea Round. It was a spontaneous decision as I was on a mini break in the North Lake District and the weather hadn’t been great. But for one day only, the sunshine came out, I dug deep and ran my furthest distance. I got to take in some new hills and run with the best company.

What do you do away from your sport?

I work as an Engineer on the submarines in the UK. Other than running I get out climbing when I can, cycle if the weathers nice, go swimming in the lakes and catch up with family and friends.

Where is your #NoPlacetooFar?

Bright, Australia. My partner was out in Australia for 6 months and I went to visit for Christmas. He took me to the Australian Alps in Bright and I had one of my best mountain fixes!
