Ed Hamer

I was born in Africa (Zimbabwe), where my family lived until I was 10 years old. My father works as an Exploration Geologist with a mining company and we moved from South Africa to Zimbabwe to Mali and finally Tanzania. Much of our free time was spent travelling, frequently to remote and mountainous regions and I quickly came to enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities, above all rock climbing.

Rock climbing – is the outdoor activity I live for. In 2004 I began climbing indoors and quickly progressed to leading outdoors.

In 2008 I was selected for the British Indoor Climbing Team and have been competing with them for the past 4 years. In 2010 I was the British Lead Champion in both Seniors and Juniors. I am currently the British Junior Champion, but have now moved into the Senior Category of the Team. I was the Silver Medallist in the IFSC World Championships in Austria in August 2011.

I have now climbed up to 300 routes of grade 8 outdoors with my best being 8c/+, onsighting 8a+ and flashing 8b+. I trad climbed up to E9, and Boulder V13. These have involved climbing in various world-class venues around Europe, including Gorge du Tarn, Gorge du Loup, Ceuse, Frankenjura, Zillertal, Catalunya, El Chorro, Kalymnos, Geyik bayiri and Fontainebleau and many more.....
