Mark Katz

Mark Katz is based near Skipton in North Yorkshire, where he works full-time as a teacher. He climbed his first Font 8b in 2004 and still manages to maintain that standard. He has climbed in Europe, South Africa and the U.S but still loves the local gritstone edges of Yorkshire just as much as anywhere. Mark has developed new boulder problems in Yorkshire, the Peak, and North Wales, he has also repeated many of the U.K.'s best and hardest boulder problems and featured in the iconic bouldering film Stick It. Although nowadays Mark is somewhat of a ‘veteran’ on the bouldering scene he’s still as keen ever.

Skipton, North Yorkshire, U.K

Bouldering and a bit of Sport climbing, just started surfing (the East coast is chilly!)

I’ve climbed a lot of 8th grade boulder problems over the last twenty years, I teach Secondary English full-time, just become a Dad which is amazing and still keen to get out climbing when I can!

-Favourite Scarpa-

I love the Scarpa Instinct VS and have been wearing these pretty much exclusively since they came out…they’re that good and fit perfectly! The Instinct VS gives great contact on steep climbing and they toe/heel hook really well.

-No Place too Far-

Warming up at Bas Cuvier in Fontainebleau on a cold and dry early morning in February with the thought of a day of projecting ahead…perfect…’Even the lottery can’t get you that’.
