The 2025 SCARPA Great Lakeland 3 Day (or GL3D) is almost here - and we are looking forward to another great weekend of running in the Lakes.
As headliner sponsor we will be on site all weekend again this year - here is what to expect!
The SCARPA Great Lakeland 3 Day
When: Friday 32nd - Monday 5th May 2025
Where: Event centre - Low Hollows Farm - Threlkeld
If you've never been before - the SCARPA Great Lakeland 3 Day is an inclusive running event with courses for all abilities - with a relaxed camp atmosphere to enjoy post run.
Here is what to expect at this year's GL3D:
The Courses
With six courses to choose from at the GL3D this year - there is something for everyone. Plus you can choose a new course each day if you like to mix and match and tailor the event to your needs.
Café
Average Daily Distance: 17km
Average Daily Elevation: 650m
The Café course is the shortest on offer at GL3D and provides and amazing experience taking in some beautiful parts of the Lake District, following a route with cafés and pubs along the way.
This course can be completed by fast walkers as well as runners and is a great first taste of multi-day trail running events.
Herdwick
Average Daily Distance: 22km
Average Daily Elevation: 1100m
Named after the Lake District's iconic sheep which roam around the area (and the course) - the Herdwick is a great next step up from the Café course.
Slightly longer than the Café course but not as physically challenging or hard to navigate as the Wainwright course.
Wainwright
Average Daily Distance: 27km
Average Daily Elevation: 1800m
Named after Alfred Wainwright and the hills which carry his name - the Wainwright course takes you to the best Wainwright summits in the area. A great way to tick off some iconic Wainwright tops and challenging yourself on this course.
Fell Runner
Average Daily Distance: 33km
Average Daily Elevation: 2400m
This course is great if you are looking to explore some remote spots in the Lake District. The distance and height gain make this a tough course - but your effort will be rewarded with some amazing views and stunning locations.
Extreme
Average Daily Distance: 40km
Average Daily Elevation: 2900m
The toughest course available at GL3D - the Extreme course is designed to push you to your limits. This course is not for novices and will require hard work and perseverance to finish before the cut off!
The Extreme course is the perfect training for multi-day events such as the Dragon's Back Race.
Adventure
Average Daily Distance: ??
Average Daily Elevation: ??
The Adventure course is not really a course at all! You can simply choose to visit whichever checkpoints you feel like visiting taking in as many or as few as you like.
Whichever course you pick the route is up to you - there are no routes market on the map - just a series of checkpoints to hit.
The Overnight Camp
There is much more to the GL3D than just running!
The Overnight camp is the place to relax after a long day on the hills, chat to your fellow adventurers and check out some of the other activities.
The Hub tent features some great talks, films and even a nightly quiz - or you can pop and grab a drink at the bar!
SCARPA Athletes are also attending and will be giving talks throughout the weekend.
SCARPA at the GL3D
We are onsite all weekend at the event centre and overnight camp.
Come along to the SCARPA tent where you can chat to our team on all things trail running.
We also have our pool of running shoes for you to try out on the course - just pop along and grab a pair - then take them running.
Plus we have some great giveaways and you can win a pair of shoes!
