Climbing - Ireland

Evie Cotrulia

Evie was born in in Ireland and grew up about an hour from Dublin, before moving to the UK with her parents when she was a teenager. She competed in 800m and hockey as a junior and found climbing relatively late in her 20's.

Her passion for climbing led her to pursue a career in the industry. After a chance opportunity to set a boulder problem back in 2010, and at the time there was only one other female setter that Evie could name in the UK, she decided this this was a career path she wanted to pursue.

Following 2 years of freelance route setting, and always being the only female on the teams, Evie was offered a Setting Manager position in 2012 even though there were still very few females actually setting in the UK, and this job developed into a multi site role spanning 13.5 years. She used this position to help seek out other females who set, including Emma Twyford who became a good friend and together, due to the gender disparity, they began teaching female only setting workshop in the UK.

As the vanguard they helped pave the way for more females to enter the industry and for it to be the accepted norm for females to be on climbing walls setting teams.

Evie is still based in the UK with her partner Yann Genoux and they enjoy climbing all over. She continues to teach route setting with Emma in the UK and abroad.
