Ed Brewer

Name: Ed Brewer

Hometown: Guildford

Sport: Running

I grew up spending all my holidays in the mountains, finding different ways to push my limits in the environment that I love most, whether that was hiking, climbing, winter mountaineering or ski touring.

This naturally progressed in to attempting big mountain challenges, and at 2am on my 13th birthday I finished my first Welsh 3000s attempt. Since then, I’ve been drawn to go bigger, faster and more technical, testing my limits, but also just enjoying the simplicity of being in the mountains. At the end of the day, I just love the mountains, and I want to keep exploring them.

Tell us about your successes so far?

I’m proud of my attempts on the big three UK 24-hour rounds, especially squeezing in under 24 hours for the Bob Graham just before my 18th birthday. Each round let me explore new areas, and I felt genuinely privileged to take them on with such an amazing crew of friends and family supporting me.

I’ve loved competing in skyrunning races, and some of my favourites have been in the UK skyrunning series, so I was chuffed to finish 2nd overall in 2025. I’m also really proud to have represented the UK in the 2024 Skyrunning World Champs in Spain.

Finally, the Dragons Back, which has to be one of the most special weeks of my life, such an amazing experience in some beautiful mountains and with some great friends. So, finishing 2nd Male and 3rd overall in 2025 has to be one of my highlights.

What are you working on? What are your goals for the future?

In 2026 I’ve got a few goals, I’m super excited to head back to the UK Skyrunning series, and give the London Marathon another go, but I’d also like to throw a couple new things into the mix.

I’m planning to make my debut in skimo racing, hoping this will combine my mountain running and ski touring experience.

I'd love to do a big ultra/alpine challenge, but I’ve yet to put my finger on exactly what that looks like.

And finally, I’ve got some less competitive goals to get in to the mountains in other ways, paragliding, alpine missions, and climbing.

Why do you run? What do you love about running?

"because it's there" sums it up pretty nicely for me. Spending time in the mountains with friends is just the best thing there is.

Which SCARPA shoe is your favourite?

I’m a big fan of the Spin ST, I like being able to feel the rock under my feet, and being thin, light and grippy, the Spin ST is perfect for my mountain running.

Tell us about your best day running?

There’s so many days that come to mind, but what they all have in common is great friends, technical terrain, and beautiful mountains.

What do you do away from your sport?

Outside the mountains, I’ve just finished uni and started working as an engineer on renewable energy projects.

I’ve always been interested in maths and engineering, and I’m excited to be putting that in to practice in the energy transition.

Where is your #NoPlacetooFar?

I’ve had a dream for a few years of doing a ski mountaineering expedition to some really remote mountains. Spend a few days towing packed sleds in to a hidden valley somewhere, set up a big base camp, and then spend a couple weeks skiing and climbing the nearby mountains.
