Name: Matthew Phillips
I was born in 2000 missing my right arm below the elbow. I started out as a national level swimmer and started climbing in 2014 after I started to find swimming boring.
I had not done any climbing previously except for the odd birthday party. I entered an open para climbing competition in 2014 and came 3rd with no formal training. After this I didn't look back, got a climbing coach and started regularly training.

I am looking to keep my world championship streak going and would like to get outside and climb hard on sport and trad climbing.
Why do you climb? What do you love about climbing?
The Community is a huge part of climbing for me it is unlike anything else that I have experienced in sport and I have made so many friends through it and grown as a person.
I have gained so much confidence from my participation in climbing and the people I have met and I wouldn’t be the person I am now without climbing.
Which Scarpa shoe is your favourite?
I am a huge fan of the Scarpa Instinct VSR.
Tell us about your best day climbing?
My best climbing day was on the south coast of England in Portland I put down a V6 boulder project I had been trying for 3 years and then climbed my first V7 alongside a few other V6’s it was an amazing day just before the UK went in to lockdown.
What do you do away from your sport?
I spend my time reading and playing video games in my down time.
My favourite place no far has to be the Rocky Mountains in Colorado an endless sea of rock that could last a life time.
