Emma Twyford - Scarpa

Emma Twyford

I started climbing with my Dad and his friends on the Mountain Rescue Team at the age of 7. I was immediately hooked. At the age of 10 I started doing climbing competitions and came 2nd in my first ever comp. I represented the GB team for about 8 years but at the age of 18 I contracted glandular fever and my love for competition climbing never returned. I headed back to my roots and to the places I first fell in love with climbing. I like to be a Jack of All trades mixing between bouldering, sport, trad and alpine climbing. I’m also one of few female route setters in the UK and with fellow Scarpa athlete Evie Cotrulia we have set up ‘Creative Climbing’ in an attempt to inspire more women to try setting.

Llanberis, North Wales.

Too many to count. I always pick things that inspire me but I’m also pretty happy go lucky if an unexpected project falls into my lap. My other project is Creative Climbing.

My biggest success touch wood is not having decked out on scary trad routes. Aside from that I’ve headpointed E9 6c, onsighted some E7’s. Redpointed 8c and onsighted numerous 8a’s and bouldered 7c+. First British female to climb Big Bang 9a. Do you know where your children are? (E8 6c). Chupacabra (E8/9 6c).

-Favourite Scarpa-

Hands down the Chimera (I love this shoe) but I also like the Drago for testing when I’m setting.

-No Place too Far-

I’d love to go everywhere but I’d like to revisit South Africa for the trad and Yosemite because I’ve not been there yet.
