Trail Running - England

Harry Holmes

Lock up your snack cupboards – Harry Holmes is in the Scarpa house. Harry, a fell runner and prolific biscuit eater, was born into an East Yorkshire farming family in 1991. From a young age he was taken walking in the hills of Northern England by his parents before finding climbing while at the University of Edinburgh, becoming a part of their mountaineering club – The Yummicks.

Harry’s climbing exploits took him across the UK and onto the Ice Climbing World Cup circuit, with a semi-final appearance in Rabenstein in 2015. In late 2015 he discovered the world of running, finding that the mental fortitude to withstand pump transferred well to running on the hills. Since then, he is regularly found at races in the mountains across the UK as well as the world.

Outside of his running exploits, Harry works as a lecturer in Engineering Geology at the University of Leeds, where his particular interest is the geo mechanics of jointed rocks.

Never one to be held back by the minor inconvenience of perfection, one of Harry’s favourite learning paradigm’s is “Good enough is perfect”. This is summed up as the best time to do something is now, providing a sufficient level of prerequisites have been met (don’t go out into the hills, for Geology or Running, without a suitable level of preparation).
