The SCARPA Blackbird is the most complex climbing shoe we've ever made. At its core: a
proprietary Pebax-Carbon-fibre midsole — years of prototyping distilled into a single,
uncompromising platform. Built for rock. Built for one thing.
On routes, the Blackbird's rigid platform absorbs a higher proportion of the effort so your feet and arms don't have to — keeping you fresher for longer. On boulders, it's a precision tool for the impossible hold: the foothold that shouldn't work, on the line that shouldn't go.

This is not an indoor shoe. Not a competition shoe. This is a toe-driven rock shoe — full stop. At its heart lies a unique midsole — the definitive combination of material, thickness, geometry and length. The choice of Pebax-Carbon fibre over pure carbon is deliberate: it
delivers superior flex resistance, performing under load without the brittleness of a pure carbon construction. Ultra-stiff underfoot, the support levels are unparalleled — but stiffness
has a cost. Under lesser loads, where the midsole can't conform to the rock, the Vibram XS
Grip2 does the work: soft enough to grip where a harder rubber would lift or slip.

The upper is built to defy expectation. A stretch microfibre and Alcantara multi-panel
construction delivers near out-of-the-box usability — a shoe this stiff has no business being
this comfortable. That comfort is engineered, not accidental: the Ilga rubber FWS system (Foot Wrapping System) drives focus into the toe box, eliminating unwanted lateral movement under load,
while the under-arch slingshot closure delivers the most secure midfoot fit SCARPA has
produced to date. At the front, the M50 hood ensures class-leading rubber coverage for toe
hooks and foot cams — working in tandem with the stretch upper to keep the toe box
forgiving, even when well knuckled.

33 separate components. A limited production run. The Blackbird is a statement of what becomes possible when SCARPA's design and manufacturing expertise is focused, without
restraint, on a single unambiguous goal.

lacing

Z-Cord System is stitched and integrated with the upper connected with a surrounding band that fully wraps and lock the foot ensuring a precise fit. A customisable feather-shaped strap closure completes the system, allowing secure adjustment.

mid sole

Equipped with a carbon-enhanced, 3D-molded Pebax® midsole that combines Pebax® Rnew (with reduced fossil origin) for lightness and elasticity. Carbon fibre for stiffness and static rigidity. Fibre Glass for flexible rigidity. The combination of these three materials provides dynamic support, resulting in a supportive yet responsive midsole that delivers maximum precision without forced downsizing. It works in synergy with a soft upper construction that molds to the foot, reducing toe compression compared to conventional precision climbing shoes. For climbers, this means reduced foot fatigue on edging, translating into higher efficiency and a better overall climbing experience.

sole

The shoe features an M50 rubber toe rand, our softest and most elastic compound, designed to adapt perfectly to the natural curve of the foot and toes, enhancing comfort and improving toe hooking performance. The Vibram® XS Grip 2 sole, covering approximately one third of the shoe’s length, provides an exceptional combination of friction, sensitivity, and support. The integrated heel catch is built with a new heel construction designed to increase heel hooking power, combining two handcrafted rubber components, one in Vibram® XS Edge and one in XS Grip 2, molded together to create a unique heel shape. A side stabiliser features an additional piece of rubber, tensioned on the internal side of the shoe, to increase foot stability.

upper

The upper is constructed with a double-layer microfibre design, featuring a perforated external layer to enhance elasticity and ensure an adaptive fit. An Alcantara inner layer, positioned under the forefoot area, amplifies sensitivity. The heel incorporates a cushioned foam insert fully covered in Alcantara, designed to reduce heel compression.
