Description

Featuring the most powerful tension system in the climbing range (currently unique to this model), the Instinct S is a relatively stiff, highly downturned shoe, excelling on steep terrain and across the board climbing arena.

The CTS (Combined Tension System) brings together attributes from the Bi-Tension (used across the rest of the Instinct series) and SRT (seen in Drago) systems, to offer powerful support and wrap-around foot-hold. The FJ last is slightly narrower with a more defined toe point than that of the FV last used in the other standard volume Instinct models. This, combined with the more powerful tension system, makes the Instinct S the most downturned shoe in the Instrinct family and laser precise on tiny dinks or screw-ons, particularly on overhanging angles beyond 25 degrees.

A five panelled microfibre upper, REB reinforced elastic closure with seamless big toe panel offer zero hot spots and a moulded fit. This upper sits aloft a 1mm half-length Flexan midsole which spreads the force in the forefoot, giving good support and flexibility where required.

Full M50 rubber on the top of the toes and heel cup massively improve hooking and foot camming. This combines perfectly with the 3.5mm two thirds length XS Grip2 sole, to offer some of the highest levels of performance available on steep terrain.

TENSION

CTS

The CTS is a combination of elastic tension rubber that controls the length of the shoe and soft high friction rubber that surrounds the forefoot. The soft M50 rubber evenly distributes power around the toe area and reduces pressure on the little toes. The harder tension rubber supports the big toe area and inside edging zone and is directly connected to the heel. The result is outstanding strength and precision on small footholds.

MIDSOLE

Half-length Flexan 1.0mm insert spreads the force in the forefoot and allows for excellent flexibility in the rear of the shoe

SOLE

3.5mm ¾ XS Grip 2 sole. M50 rubber heel construction for high friction hooking performance.

Technologies

IT CAN BE RESOLED

This shoe can be resolved at one of the official SCARPA resole shops. We recommend resoling before the wear and tear is excessive to preserve performance and prolong the life of your shoe or boot. Check out the full list of authorized centers on the store locator.

CTS-TENSION

The elastic tensioning system along the entire length of the shoe combines with an extremely soft rubber that wraps around the forefoot. The M50 compound concentrates power on the big toe while reducing pressure on the other toes. Tensioning starts at the toe and connects directly to the heel, resulting in exceptional power and precision even on small footholds.

REB

This system combines an elastic instep band with an innovative rubber cross-band system, ensuring an excellent and durable fit. PU laces are welded directly onto the elastic band, strengthening it and ensuring a stable and durable foot wrap.

Technical Partners

M50 Rubber

The softest rubber compound in our range, designed to provide maximum adaptability to the shape of the foot and toes. Developed in collaboration with Davos®, it has a Shore A rating of 50, offering a high wrapping ability. Its features make it particularly suitable for the SRT system, toe cap coverings, and targeted applications on the upper.

VIBRAM XS GRIP2 RUBBER

The natural evolution of the Vibram® XS GRIP compound, widely used by world-class athletes in bouldering. Featuring significantly improved grip, it offers an excellent level of compactness, ideal for working on edges and moderately inclined holds. It also ensures consistent performance in all temperatures. It is the recommended choice for applications that require the maximum level of adhesion.
