Calum grew up among the hills and mountains of North Wales, where a lifelong passion for climbing and adventure began. Now based in Wales with his wife and two young children, he works as an IFMGA Mountain Guide, guiding and climbing throughout the UK, the Alps and further afield.
After an apprenticeship on the mountain crags and sea cliffs of Wales, Calum was drawn to alpinism and big wall climbing, making free ascents of El Capitan and climbing notable alpine routes such as Divine Providence on Mont Blanc while still a teenager. His passion for climbing remains as strong as ever, from seeking out new routes close to home in Wales to expeditions and first ascents in Patagonia, Jordan and Norway.
Beyond climbing, Calum is a keen skier, runner, cyclist, paraglider and kayaker, and enjoys moving between sports and exploring the outdoors in different ways across the seasons. Alongside his work as a mountain guide, he conducts research in sport psychology and social prescribing, exploring the relationships between physical activity, emotion regulation and mental health.
