Climbing - England

Craig Matheson

Craig Matheson is a Lake District-based trad climber who has spent nearly three decades seeking out adventure on Britain's mountain crags. Drawn to climbing from an early age through his family's love of the outdoors, he has dedicated much of his life to exploring new lines, embracing uncertainty and pushing his own limits on traditional routes across the UK.

Over the years, Craig has established some of Britain's hardest trad climbs and repeated many of its most demanding routes. What makes his journey distinctive isn't simply the grades he's climbed, but the way he's achieved them—balancing a full-time engineering career, raising a family and believing that passion, commitment and consistency matter far more than having endless time to climb.

That same passion for climbing has led Craig beyond the crags. In recent years he founded Climb3R, a business dedicated to extending the life of climbing holds and helping the UK's indoor walls become more sustainable. It's another way of giving something back to a sport that has shaped his life, supporting the climbing community both indoors and out.

For Craig, climbing has never been about chasing numbers. It's about curiosity, commitment and those unforgettable moments when preparation, opportunity and belief come together. Whether exploring a new line or revisiting an old favourite, he's driven by a simple belief: the greatest rewards come from making the most of every opportunity.
