Mountaineering - Scotland

Di Gilbert

A seventies child born in Aberdeen, Di Gilbert started her mountain apprenticeship in one of the United Kingdom’s harshest environment - The Cairngorms.  Little did she know that this beginning would stand her in very good stead for her chosen path in life.  A full time Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and Expedition Leader Di has chased various summits and sweet lines for over 30 years.

One of the UK’s most experienced High Altitude Leaders she has travelled to all 7 continents with numerous ascents of peaks over 7000 metres.  In 2010 Di became the 276th person to complete the Seven Summits, before completing her Munro’s in 2011 and Corbetts in 2024. Her contribution to mountaineering was acknowledged by the University of Strathclyde by becoming inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015.

"It’s not necessary the mountains themselves. It’s about the people that head to the mountains to share the same adventures that make mountains special. That’s what brings the most joy."
