Climbing - England

Matthew Phillips

Born missing his right arm below the elbow in the UK. Matthew Phillips has never let his disability hold him back. Competing in sports since his early childhood. Matthew found climbing in 2014 after transitioning away from swimming at national and international level.

After joining the GB paraclimbing team at 16 years old he has proceeded to excel on the international climbing winning 3 world championships between 2018 and 2021 as well as winning 4 world cups.

Following his win at the Moscow world championships in 2021 Matthew took a break from competing to focus on his passion as a route-setter and coach helping to build a strong community of young climbers. He now has returned to competing after 5 years with his eyes firmly set on the Paralympic games in 2028.
