Name: Maximillian Milne

Hometown: Aberdeen

Sport: Climbing

I’ve been climbing since I could remember; out my cot before I could walk, trees, lampposts, roofs, you name it I climbed it or tried anyway! But at the age of 11 I had my first taster session at Transition Extreme. I loved it!! I couldn’t get enough and my instructor thought I was a natural. He gave me a free session where I then climbed a 6c, shortly after that only 3 months of going climbing every week I started competing and I have never stopped, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!!

I will continue to compete internationally all over the world and nationally in the disciplines of lead, speed and my favourite boulder! My all time life dream is to reach the Olympics - I will keep pushing myself to my absolute limit physically and mentally outside on the rock.

Tell us about your successes so far?

The 2021 season has been a great introduction for my first senior international season. I managed to make Boulder World Cup finals. I placed second place at the European lead in Laval, and became British champ! More to come!

What are you working on? What are your goals for the future?

I want to kept evolving as a athlete this winter, which will help me Improve my World Cup performances leading up to 2024 and become two time Olympic Champion.

Why do you climb? What do you love about climbing?

I was a high energy kid, driving my Mum and Dad nuts. Climbing EVERYTHING in sight before I could even walk. My Dad took me to the climbing gym for the first time when my mum was diagnosed with cancer. I was only ten years old, and obviously fell in love with the sport. But, it was also something to keep my mind off seeing my mum go through that horrible journey.

My motivations for climbing change all the time.

Firstly my love and passion fuels all the other reasons but climbing gives me way more than “fun” it challenges me to constantly evolve and become a better person and that’s one of my favourite reasons why at the moment.

Which Scarpa shoe is your favourite?

Just like my reasons “why?”, my favourite shoes also change too. The Instinct VSR was my ride or die in 2019 and recently I switched to the using Drago LV and the Furia Airs. However, I’m finding myself falling back in love the the Instincts. So wait and see what I compete in next season!

Tell us about your best day climbing?

This is a hard one as I continue to keep making new memories within and out side of climbing. But, some of my favourite days have been Winning British Boulder Championships, making World Cup final and just day to day training sessions with my friends which a lovely trip to London has reminded me that the people closest to me are a key ingredient to my life and without them all these amazing experiences wouldn’t be worth it.

What do you do away from your sport?

I won’t lie to you all I don’t do much else than Training, eating and sleeping but some other things I like to do to keep me some what sane is parkour, footy, watching TV/ cartoons and my mindfulness practices or just chilling with my friends.

Where is your #NoPlacetooFar?

I’ve got many! My top three places though are Paris for 2024 Olympic Games, Tokyo Japan and this next place isn’t a physical place but somewhere I would like to be spiritually I see myself being being able to live in the moment more! That’s somewhere I’d love to be.
